SES Principal

Welcome to Southaven Elementary School!

I am very excited to be the principal at SES! Before becoming a principal, I worked as a teacher at Oak Grove Central and as an Assistant Principal at Southaven Intermediate School. I am a native of Batesville, and earned my bachelor's, master's, and specialist degrees from the University of Mississippi. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, excercising, and cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels. I have two beautiful children, Bankston(6) and Parker(4). Please feel free to call or email me with any questions that you might have.

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Assistant Principal

I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Mississippi, and then began my career at Horn Lake Elementary in DeSoto County 27 years ago. While there, I taught first and third grade. After six years, I left DeSoto County and went to A. B. Hill Elementary in Memphis where I taught 19 years. While at A.B. Hill Elementary I taught kindergarten 9 years, first grade 5 years, second grade 4 years, and a year in fourth grade. While staying in the Memphis City school district I transferred to Balmoral-Ridgeway Elementary where I taught Kindergarten for one year, then moved to Klondike Preparatory Academy where I taught Kindergarten and First grade for 2 years.

During my years in Memphis I was recognized by the district for literacy development, earned my National Board Certification, and had an article published in a book titled, "What Award Winning Teachers Do", by Corwin Press. In 2006, I was nationally recognized during a surprise ceremony where I received the Milken Educator Award. In 2009, I received a Master of Education degree from Union University, and in 2011 I acquired an additional Master of Educational Leadership and Supervision degree from Arkansas State University.

I am a long time resident of Desoto County, and have been married to my wonderful and supportive husband, Scott Borden for 37 years. We have two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren. I love going to the beach and spending time with my family and friends.

I am honored to be a part of the SES family, and look forward to a memorable year full of teaching and learning.

3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Assistant Principal

I began my teaching career with Desoto County Schools in 2006. Although I am certified to teach grades K-8, I fell in love with third grade while student teaching at Hope Sullivan Elementary. After graduating from the University of Memphis, I was blessed to gain a third grade position with the same amazing staff that served as my mentors.

In 2008, I transferred to Lake Cormorant Elementary where I taught third grade for another six years under wonderful administrators. These administrators inspired me to pursue a  master's degree in Educational Leadership. In 2013, I received a full scholarship to the Principal Corps program with the University of Mississippi, and completed a year long internship.

I am so excited to serve the community, families, and teachers of Southaven Elementary for the second year. We have such a devoted staff committed to ensure every child succeeds. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Your feedback is vaulable and welcome. Together we can make great things happen!
